Koulla Yiasouma, Commissioner for Children and Young People for Northern Ireland

Children’s access to the best and safest online experience is more important than ever before. The Covid-19 Pandemic has meant that our children and young people are spending more of their time online for their education, health and social interactions. Without the internet this whole experience would have be so much more difficult than it has been.

Safer Internet Day gives us the opportunity to focus on our minds on how we make sure that our children and young people are as safe as we can make them. It is also a reminder that we should remain vigilant every day of the year.

To achieve a Safer Internet we need to embark on meaningful partnerships that connect government, companies, children, their parents and schools.  I look forward to seeing the implementation of regulations, training, accessible information and support that ensures that the online world is as safe as it can possibly be.
